A Mood & Collection Board Will Be Required

As per your training, once you have found your inspiration regarding the designs you intend to create, you will go ahead to create your Mood/collection board. This Mood/collection board is a compulsory requirement that enables the production and styling team to know what to expect.

Criteria for Assessing your Collection

Design Concept: Your design concept should be clear, strong, and show your creativity and originality. It should have a consistent vision throughout your collection. For example, if your concept is “Modern Vintage,” make sure your designs reflect a combination of contemporary and classic elements.

Range and Variety: Make sure your collection offers diversity. Include different styles, silhouettes, and design elements. This means having a mix of long and short dresses, pants and skirts, and different necklines and sleeve styles. For instance, if you have a formal gown, balance it out with casual separates like tops and pants.

Fabric Selection and Application: Choose fabrics that are suitable for your designs. Consider the quality, texture, and color of the fabrics. For example, if you’re designing a flowy summer dress, opt for lightweight fabrics like chiffon or cotton that will enhance the overall look and feel of the garment.

Coherence and Cohesion: Ensure that your collection works well together as a whole. Look for consistency in your theme, color palette, or design elements. For instance, if your theme is “Nature-Inspired,” use a consistent color scheme and incorporate nature-inspired prints or motifs throughout the collection.

Innovation and Creativity: Show your ability to think innovatively and bring fresh perspectives to your designs. Include unique design details, unexpected combinations of fabrics or patterns, or new interpretations of traditional elements. For example, experiment with asymmetrical hemlines or combine unexpected textures like lace and leather.

Presentation: Pay attention to how you present your collection. Make sure your styling, visual impact, and overall presentation effectively convey your vision. Consider how your models are styled, the accessories you choose, and the overall atmosphere you create during the presentation.

Conceptualization and Storytelling: Aim to tell a story or convey a message through your collection. Create an emotional connection or provoke a response from the audience. For instance, if your collection is inspired by a personal journey, use design elements and colors that symbolize different stages of that journey and allow your audience to connect with your story.

Fittings & Line-up Sessions

All designers will meet with their respective models three (3) times for fitting and a line-up session before the main day of the graduation show. This is to ensure that you can make the necessary alterations to achieve a perfect fit before the day and to enable the production team to have an idea of the showcasing designs to plan for the show The dates are as follows:

  • 1st Fitting:Sunday 4th August 2024
    Time: (to be communicated)
  • 2nd Fitting: Sunday 8th September 2024
    Time: (to be communicated)
  • Line Up: Sunday 13th October 2024

The last designer is expected to be at the fitting grounds at least 30 minutes before the closing time. Any designer who comes in late does that at his/her risk because all the models would be gone and Riohs will not be held responsible for your inability to fit. Any designer who wishes to have a private fitting should contact the models’ coordinator Miss Lankai on to book the models. In such cases, the designer will have to cater to the well-being (safety) and transportation of the model. Please note that all private test fit is based on the availability of the model, hence a model can accept or decline a private fitting.
